Like many of us, I had always dreamed of owning my little slice of paradise, but after joining the workforce for a few years I quickly realized my dream would be a little harder to achieve than I anticipated. The economy makes it so hard for young people like me to feasibly buy and own property. Prices for even a small house seemed impossible to save for after college-- that is until I discovered tiny living.
I dove down the you tube rabbit hole as soon as I saw my first tiny home tour online. Growing up in rural Texas, I never thought I would envy those who lived in the middle of nowhere with little to nothing until I realized it was my ticket to financial independence.
After some tumultuous life changes in 2024 I decided there was no better time to pursue my tiny house dreams, and that's how I found the bus.
I was stationed at Ft. Jackson South Carolina when I saw a listing for my school bus on Facebook marketplace. I drove out to the middle of nowhere Georgia woods (alone... like a crazy person) to see it. Instantly, I fell in love and bought the bus despite having a dwindling savings and no plan.
After finishing my Army training my boyfriend and I drove the bus cross country all the way home to West Texas.
Life since then has been a blur, but slowly and surely I am building the home of my dreams and all at just 23 years old. Who would have thought?! I guess that makes me a home owner, though not by any traditional means.
I'll write more about my adventures soon. There's so much to share with you.
Until next time,
Gabby
